- What made you decide to join Roller Derby?
I can’t remember how it started but I fell in love at least a year before my city had a league. I wanted to commute to the nearest city with a league but I just couldn’t afford it. My derby wife saw the flyer advertising the first meet up, texted me a picture of the flyer, and we started on our leagues first practice together! - Have you ever played any other organized sports?
I was a cheerleader in elementary school and for one semester of high school… also I was on the drum line of my marching band. Does that count? - What position do you enjoy playing most?
Jammer. - What has been the hardest aspect of the game to get right?
Oh jeez. I think my answer to this changes every month or so. I gotta say getting over my nerves though. I do way worse when I’m skating for points or in front of people right now, and I gotta figure out how to really skate at my best when it counts. - What setup do you skate on?
Like… flat track? I’m on 92As right now, I forget the brand, but I’m about to get 92A Diamonds for my birthday, and my skates are R3’s. - What’s the story behind your derby name?
I wanted something nerdy. I was actually gonna go with Luna Shovegood but it was taken. My sister came up with R2 Destroy, which I might have to change if this girl in Florida who got her’s registered first doesn’t wanna share! My backup name (which is now my modeling name) is now taken too so wish me luck. That name is Lavender Menace, btw. - What does your preferred uniform look like? (Socks / fishnets / shorts / skirts / etc) and/or your favorite item of clothing.
Tights so I don’t get rink rash, preferably slightly thicker, shiny tights. Either black, blue, or some near pattern. Knee socks so I can be sure they won’t slip down in my skate, my favorite knee socks have a galaxy pattern on them. Boy cut unders outside my tights are more comfortable to me than actual shorts, my favorites are black with silver stars (to match that jammer panty!) We don’t really have ‘official’ jerseys so much as team t-shirts, so I really like the well made black jerseys me and some other girls got made to skate with another team. - If you could join any team / league other than the one you’re on, which would it be?
Oooh… Gotham is an obvious answer. Skating banked track would be neat so any banked track league would be neat, but I don’t know if I’d wanna stay there forever. Basically I just think it’d be fun to be on a more established league in the future. - What is your LEAST favorite thing about Roller Derby?
It’s still so unknown and disrespected where I live, I hate that people don’t understand what I mean when I say “I do roller derby.” - Who is your biggest fan / supporter?
I have a few! My fiancee, my derby wife, my non-derby best friend, and I think the really big one is my dad! Me and my dad weren’t close before derby but I actually know he is proud of me now, it’s been one of the badass things derby has done in my life! - Who inspires you the most? (Doesn’t necessarily have to someone in Roller Derby.)
Man… everyone who really commits to derby. My coach who started our league and runs the whole damn thing because she thought we should have it here. The first small girl I ever saw skate like a badass, who now skates for DCRG. My derby wife who came back stronger from an injury, and my IRL fiancee who’s working on doing the same. SO MANY PEOPLE.
